Overview
Matthew Coughlan is an associate attorney at Romero Park P.S. Before joining the firm, Matthew graduated cum laude from Florida State University, where he double-majored in economics and international affairs, and was a member of the honors program. Much of his coursework focused on trade, finance, and energy. After attaining his Bachelor’s degree, he obtained his Master’s degree in applied politics and public policy.
Matthew earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. While in law school, Matthew was a member of the trial advocacy program and participated in multiple clinics, where he gained valuable experience, including the opportunity to advocate at a federal deportation proceeding, where he successfully obtained asylum status in the United States for his client.
Upon graduation, Matthew accepted an offer at the Office of the Public Defender-15th Judicial Circuit in West Palm Beach, Florida, representing a wide-range of individuals with varying interests. He handled approximately 25 jury trials, and otherwise advocated for his clients via Court hearings and various other litigation strategies.
Matthew is licensed to practice in Washington and Florida.
Outside the Office
Matthew was born in Massachusetts but grew up in South Florida. He and his wife, Patricia moved to Washington when she accepted a position with Amazon. The couple reside in downtown Seattle and enjoy everything the city has to offer. Matthew is an avid sports fan, particularly when it comes to boxing, soccer, football, and basketball. He enjoys traveling, reading, and watching movies. One of his future goals is to learn to ski.
